Cars I’d love to Own

Every now and then I like to indulge in a fantasy world where money isn’t an object and I can do whatever I want. Usually, when my mind wonders down this alley on of the first things I think about is what car I would buy and next thing I know I’m speeding down the motorway in a brand new Bugatti Veyron, letting rip and deafening anyone that within a mile radius of me before pulling up to my Manor House in the countryside. Makes a change from my second hand Jaguar XF (I’m not complaining!).

See I’m a big fan of driving, always have been and if I’m not watching Top Gear on my TV I find myself in a world of bitterness, resentment and jealousy towards the presenters, what a job they have! Don’t get me wrong, I’ve been lucky enough to own some pretty nice cars, I had a contract hire Land Rover Range Rover Evoque for 6 months last year through work and I absolutely loved it. But it’s still not quite the supercar you dream of owning when you’re a kid.

My desire for one of these cars is becoming a borderline obsession that my wife is writing off as a mid-life crisis, she caught me enquiring about a second hand McLaren MP4-12C the other day and was completely bemused as to why I was doing so. I felt like a teenager getting caught on one of those naughty websites. To be fair I was being ridiculous, god knows what made me think we had a spare £120,000 lying around, the kid’s university funds were dangerously close to being raided!

Anyway, the wife saw it as a cry for help so she did something nice for me and bought me a track day at Silverstone where I got to raz around the track in the Nissan GT-R, a car which I have loved since it was introduced back in 2007, and won the Top Gear Supercar of the Year award. But far from getting it out of my system, it has only made my lust for a supercar worse so let me vent.

The car that immediately springs to mind in a world of frivolous spending is the Lamborghini Gallardo, pretty unoriginal I know, but it is popular for a reason! You can get a pretty good deal on second hand Gallardos too, I’m lucky I hadn’t seen the price for one when I was having a moment of madness with the Mclaren, as I would probably have a bright yellow Lamborghini sat on the drive now, and a wife threatening to leave me unless I sold it on.

Another car I would love to own is the Porsche Carrera GT, the newer ones wouldn’t look out of place on a F1 track. I guess if money wasn’t an issue though I would go for its successor the Porsche 918 Spyder just because I could. I might have to look into a track day in one of these bad boys actually, would make a nice present for my next birthday.

Back to the first car I mentioned, the Bugatti Veyron! Surely that is the ultimate toy for any driver. It is the fastest road legal production car on the planet! Sure there are no roads that you can legally reach its top speed on, but who cares, the fact that it has that kind of potential is impressive enough. I doubt I’d even have the bottle to take it to its top speed of 267.856 mph! I get a bit uneasy when I hit 90! Not only is it incredible in terms of performance but I genuinely think it is one of the best looking cars ever!

I might just do the same as the wife’s old man who got himself a second hand Rolls-Royce Silver Spirit as a nice little retirement present. Though it will be a long while before I’m anywhere near retiring.
